Siena Programs for Deaf and Interpreting Students

Study Abroad in Siena, Italy!

Join us on Thursday, November 5th, from 2PM - 4PM in Building 55, Room 1310, (first floor of the dining Commons) to talk with program representatives from the Siena Summer Programs for Deaf and Interpreting Students. There are several programs available:

  • Italian Sign Language, Italian, and Italian Deaf Culture- for hearing students who know ASL. Students will stay with local hearing families and are completely immersed in Italian language and culture.
  • Italian Sign Language, Italian and Culture Studies- For deaf and hard of hearing students. All teachers and staff have experience with the deaf world and know ASL and/or LIS. Often our students live with Italian deaf students who come from all over Italy to attend Siena School Programs
  • Italian Sign Language and Cultural Studies- Welcomes professionals in the deaf world a unique opportunity for networking and professional development.

Program Changes:

Application deadline for all three programs is February 15. Applications that are accepted between February 16 and April 15 will be subject to a late charge, because it is tougher to find appropriate housing as it gets closer to the summer. Students, once accepted, will also be required to pay a non-refundable deposit, again, in order to secure the appropriate housing.

There are two programmatic changes this year - Our deaf and hearing programs will run at the same time for 3.5 weeks (as opposed to 3). Students who attend this year have the opportunity to see the Palio, since the program starts June 9th and finishes July 3rd.

The adult program will run July 4th -17th and will coincide with the EFSLI summer school, which will be hosted at the Siena school. Unfortunately, their website is under construction until mid-October. Until then, please email Scottie Allen, at s.allen@sienaschool.com to receive more information or a copy of the application.
